Seeking a student rep
MINNEAPOLIS – The search for a new superintendent isn’t the only important search happening right now…Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is also looking for its next Student Board Representative. The Student Representative provides an important perspective to the Board and gives voice to those at the heart of the district’s work: MPS students.
Serving as Student Representative offers a chance to gain a wide array of leadership, communication and political skills while also strengthening future college applications and/or resumes. In addition, the student selected for the Board receives up to a $5,000 scholarship to recognize their dedication and commitment to MPS.
Last year was the first time a student was named as a nonvoting member of the Minneapolis Board of Education. This year, 10th and 11th grade students are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity. Applications will be accepted until Nov. 30, and the new Student Board Representative will take office and serve a one-year term beginning in January 2016.
