Minneapolis Public Schools Culinary & Wellness Services offers breakfast, lunch, snacks & suppers at all MPS schools.
 
School menus are available online at SchoolCafe or Culinary & Wellness Services.

Meal Cost

  • Breakfast is offered at no cost to all students.
  • The lunch rate is $2.40 at all K-8 buildings; $2.70 for secondary buildings.
  • Lunch is offered at no cost for students who qualify for Educational Benefits.
  • Schools operating under the Community Eligibility Provision offer lunch for all students at no cost.
  • Snacks and supper are no cost at participating sites.

How To Pay

  • Cash: Send money in an envelope to your child’s school kitchen with their name and ID number. Please send exact change. Change is not available in the lunchroom.
  • Checks: Make checks payable to MPS Culinary and Wellness Services, and include your student’s pin on the check.
  • Online: visit www.schoolcafe.com to make a payment.
  • Via mobile app: search SchoolCafe in your smartphone app store.

No Cost Meals

  • Families may apply for no cost meal benefits at any time during the school year.
  • To learn if your family qualifies for no cost meals, please complete the Application for Educational Benefits. Families also receive this form before the student’s first day of classes.
  • The forms are also available online by visiting www.schoolcafe.com. If household income or size changes, families can apply for meal benefits anytime during the school year.

Meal Charging

If a student or family account does not have enough money to pay for lunch, students are able to charge a basic meal to their student account, but will not be able to purchase any a-la-carte items such as second meals, entrees and/or milk.

Notification of Account Status

  • Families can check their student’s meal account balance via the SchoolCafe app; online at SchoolCafe.com; or by contacting the School Culinary and Wellness Coordinator in their school’s kitchen or the Culinary and Wellness Services office at 612.668.2820
  • The parent/guardian will receive a phone notification when the household account is at ten dollars ($10.00) or less twice per month.
  • MPS Culinary and Wellness Services encourages parents to complete the Application for Educational Benefits.
  • Accounts with a negative balance will receive a monthly letter via USPS.

Refunds and Balance Transfers

  • All refund or balance transfer requests may be directed to MPS Culinary and Wellness Services office at 612.668.2820 or email: hashep.seka@mpls.k12.mn.us.
  • Balances remaining in a student’s account at the end of the school year will carry over to the following school year.
  • If the student moves to a new building, the balance will transfer along with that student.
