Northeast students ready to take a dip…in the Shark Tank!

MINNEAPOLIS – Some-fin tells us you won’t want to miss this event. Courageous, curious and capable, Northeast Middle School students will take a dip in the Shark Tank on Friday to offer sustainable solutions to the issue of urban food deserts in Minneapolis.

Food deserts are areas where people cannot purchase fresh, affordable produce within one mile of their residence. In fact, Northeast is located in a food desert. Tasked by Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges, these innovative engineers are pitching plans that could be “implemented in any school [or] home.”

This event is part of an effort by Northeast educators to teach Minnesota science standards from a problem-based perspective. Judging pitches will be Mayor Hodges, Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Ed Graff and State Senator Jim Carlson, among others.
