Mr. Weber goes to Washington
MINNEAPOLIS – Bertrand Weber, Director of Culinary and Wellness Services at Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS), is back in Washington, D.C. This time, it’s as part of the Chefs Move to Schools Task Force created as part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative.
Every day, MPS serves more than 43,000 meals at 73 schools. The district makes delicious meals without high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, artificial colors or preservatives. It’s called “true food.” For students to be successful, it’s important for them to not only receive high-quality teaching, but healthy meals, too.
This effort is backed by the True Food Chef Council, whose members support the district’s commitment to scratch cooking, food integrity, local food and healthy eating. The True Food Chef Council is a partnership between MPS’ Culinary & Wellness Services department and the Minneapolis restaurant/culinary community.
In a statement on the Chefs Move to Schools website, First Lady Michelle Obama said, “We are going to need everyone’s time and talent to solve the childhood obesity epidemic and our Nation’s chefs have tremendous power as leaders on this issue because of their deep knowledge of food and nutrition and their standing in the community. I want to thank them for joining the Let’s Move! Campaign.”
