MPS students stay close, go far at Empower Me Tour
MINNEAPOLIS – Nearly 700 Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) students will attend the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Empower Me Tour on Tuesday to learn about college and career opportunities. Representatives from Historically Black Colleges and Universities and local colleges and universities will be available and offering on-site college admissions, awarding scholarships and preparing students and families for post-secondary options.
According to UNCF, the Empower Me Tour “was created to empower a movement among young people, motivating them toward academic excellence, personal responsibility and fiscal health through relevant program content and celebrity engagement.” The free event allows middle and high school students to explore the many paths available for their futures.
In addition, on Monday, UNCF and MPS will host a workshop about paying for college to equip families with tools needed to help their student attend college.
