MPS Closed Jan. 28

Minneapolis Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Jan. 28, due to forecast weather conditions. The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy snowfall rates and accumulation of 6-8 inches, which is likely to significantly impact commutes. The closure is districtwide and affects all schools, buildings, programs, events and activities, including the Davis Service Center, as well as all athletic, Minneapolis Community Education, Early Childhood and Minneapolis Kids child care programs.

We will be reviewing the forecast for the rest of the week and following up with additional information as needed.

The primary criteria we consider when making weather-related decisions include:

  • The safety and well-being of students and staff
  • The severity of the weather (extreme cold, flooding, etc.)
  • The ability for buses and cars to travel safely
  • Timing of weather
