Minneapolis Public Schools extends sympathies to City of Orlando, offers support to Minneapolis families

MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) stands beside our LGBTQ, Muslim and Latinx friends in Orlando. We extend our heartfelt sympathies and join with allies across the nation in mourning the tragic loss of 49 lives.

Moments like these remind us of the important role schools can play in providing support to students and families. From offering a safe space to students desperately seeking a place where they can be themselves to affirming a student’s right to freely express themselves, school districts must be leaders in the fight against bigotry and hatred. Every student deserves a respectful learning environment in which their diversity is valued and contributes to successful outcomes in school and life.

MPS is proud to back its support for all students and families with strong policies that promote inclusion and healthy learning environments. In addition, the district stands ready to offer any support necessary to children and families affected by the violence in Orlando. We are committed to seeing all of our students succeed.
