Minneapolis Public Schools announces leadership changes at Harrison Education Center
MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is pleased to introduce the new principal and assistant principal of Harrison Education Center.
Nathan Hampton will be Harrison’s new principal. Mr. Hampton comes to this position with a wide breadth and depth of experience in the field of education, including special education. One of his first jobs was helping transition students from Federal Setting IV programs, like Harrison Education Center, back to their home schools. His most recent administrative experience has been in the Robbinsdale School District, where he oversaw a program focused on improving educational experiences for young African-American men.
Joe Groves will be Harrison’s new assistant principal. He started his career in education as a youth worker in Chicago and, after a few years, joined Minneapolis Public Schools. Mr. Groves then pursued his teaching certification and taught at Andersen Elementary and Olson Middle schools. For more than seven years, he has been part of MPS’ Positive School-wide Behavior Team and assisted schools in developing school-wide behavior plans.
Principal Hampton, Assistant Principal Groves, and the entire Harrison staff are excited to welcome students and families who will be part of the Harrison community this fall. An informal “Meet and Greet” with Harrison’s new leadership team and Superintendent Graff will be held this Thursday, Aug. 11, for students, families, community members and media. An open house will follow later this month.
