Minneapolis Board of Education seeking full information before finalizing Superintendent contract

MINNEAPOLIS – Due diligence by the Minneapolis Board of Education in its Superintendent hiring process will continue with a site visit to Massachusetts on Friday, Dec. 18, and further gathering of information regarding allegations about the treatment of special education students in the Holyoke school district under the leadership of then-superintendent Dr. Sergio Páez. To facilitate this due diligence, tonight the Board of Education voted to suspend Superintendent contract negotiations with preferred-candidate Páez.

The Board will revisit the issue of contract negotiations at its regularly scheduled business meeting on Jan. 12. At that time, the Board will also receive an update from Directors Josh Reimnitz and Tracine Asberry about their site visit to Massachusetts.

The Board takes seriously the allegations in Holyoke and looks forward to thoroughly reviewing and evaluating all pertinent information before finalizing a contract with Dr. Páez.
