Minneapolis Board of Education congratulates Interim Superintendent Michael Goar
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minneapolis Board of Education congratulates Interim Superintendent Michael Goar on his selection as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities. Goar was named Interim Superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) on Feb. 1, 2015, after the resignation of Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson. He previously served as the district’s CEO.
Board Chair Jenny Arneson said, “The Board has appreciated Michael’s leadership, and we wish him all the best as he takes on this new challenge. Our focus is on finalizing a transition plan as our Selection Committee continues its work to present a list of Superintendent finalists to the Board.”
The Board began a new Superintendent search on Mar. 8. On Apr. 5, Directors voted to approve Selection Committee members to evaluate qualified Superintendent applicants and make recommendations to the Board. Since that time, the Selection Committee has been working to review candidates.
Director Nelson Inz, Chair of the Superintendent Selection Committee, expressed confidence in the search process and the committee’s work. “The committee has been reviewing a list of well-qualified candidates. We look forward to presenting a list of finalists to the full Board,” he said.
Next week, the Selection Committee will interview semifinalists and narrow them down to a list of finalists. A community reception with finalists will be held May 16, and by May 27, the Board will meet to vote and approve a final contract for the new Superintendent.
