Dear friends, families and supporters,

Friday’s house fire that killed five children, two of whom attended Bethune Community School, was a tremendous loss. Not only of life, but in the loss of a home, personal belongings and so much more. Especially in times of tragedy, our community must unite to support those who are suffering.

I would like to thank the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT) and their president, Lynn Nordgren,  for their leadership to initiate a fundraising and donation effort. City Councilman Blong Yang will join Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) and the MFT in this partnership to provide support to the family.

We encourage our entire community to support this effort by donating clothing, household items and toiletries to assist the family. Monetary donations will also be accepted. Please make checks payable to the MFT.  Items can be brought directly to the MFT, located at 67 8th Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis or delivered to the information desk at the MPS Davis Center, located at 1250 West Broadway Avenue.

Thank you for considering donating to the family.

Sincerely,

Michael Goar
Chief Executive Officer
