Basic Needs

There are many resources to help families find access to basic needs such as food, clothing, meals and shelter during the summer months. Browse the following resources for more information:

  • Resource guide - This guide will direct you to the MPS family resource centers where you can get information on health services, medical insurance, food stamp applications, counseling for children and adults, computer labs, education, housing, childcare and more
  • Summer meals program - Minneapolis Public Schools sponsors the Summer Food Service Program in Minneapolis schools, parks, and community sites. Meals are free to all children ages 1-18. The program will run Monday, June 11 - Friday, August 17. There will be no meal service on Wednesday, July 4.
  • Family Resource Center - MPS sites offer resources for health services, housing, food, clothes, education and employment programs.
  • School-based clinics are affordable options that allow students to be seen during the day in school so parents don’t have to take time off from work. Appointments are available in August.
  • United Way 2-1-1 - Dial 211 for information about food, housing, employment, childcare, transportation, health services, senior services and more. It's free, confidential and available 24/7. Cell phone users can call 651.291.0211. Multilingual access available for over 100 languages, including Spanish, Hmong, Somali and Russian.
  • Minneapolis 311 - is an online resource for city services such as public safety, employment, utilities, housing, streets, parking and more.
  • Technology Literacy Collaborative allows you to search for free computer lab access in your area.
