Michael is a native Minnesotan and grew up in St. Paul and the eastern suburbs.  He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of St. Thomas with a major in social work.  He was a Bush Fellow at the University of Minnesota where he received his Master's in social work.  He is currently a Presidential Scholar at the University of St. Thomas where he is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership.

Michael spent the past 12 years with the Osseo School District where he was both an elementary and junior high principal for six years.  He also coordinated the district's equity and integration efforts for 6 years.  Prior to being recruited to Osseo, he worked in St. Paul Public Schools as a social worker and director of student and family support.

Michael's diverse work experiences (e.g. Schools, hospitals, community mental health and corrections) lends itself well to the many students we serve in Minneapolis Public Schools. 

When he is not serving students, families and staff, he remains committed to his own family and enjoys fishing and writing poetry.
