Mission: Every Child College Ready

The Division of Accountability, Planning & Innovation helps to promote student achievement and high quality schools by assuring that MPS holds itself accountable for performance at all levels, ensuring that the District develops sound strategies and operational plans based on solid research and evaluation, providing project management support for key strategic initiatives, and creating new schools to provide students with additional high quality options. The division encompasses the Office of Research, Evaluation and Assessment, Office of New Schools and Strategic Planning.

Core functions

Develops and oversees comprehensive MPS Accountability System, including:

  • Develops and administers school-level accountability system and provides student achievement information, including school progress reports and school information reports.
  • Develops and manages the District's scorecard 
  • Supports divisions and departments in developing metrics and performance targets. Developing new District process for reporting department and division metrics.
  • In collaboration with Academic Office and Human Resources, develops and administers selected components of the individual performance management system for district administrative staff, principals and teachers (e.g., data for TAP).
     

Supports Academic Office and schools to improve student achievement, including:

  • Conducts program evaluation and research to ensure MPS invests in what works.
  • Assists in developing and/or selecting reliable assessment tools.
  • Provides student achievement data and analyses that educators can use to improve teaching and learning.
     

Supports district Strategic Planning and Implementation, including:

  • Conducts research into existing MPS and external best practices.
  • Ensures division strategic and operational plans are aligned with overall strategy.
  • Provides project management for high priority strategic initiatives.
  • Supports alignment of human capital to strategic objectives.
  • Ensures effective strategy communications to stakeholders.
     

Recruits, monitors and renews new high quality Autonomous Schools(self-governed, charter and contract) on behalf of the Superintendent and Board of Education, to accelerate progress in meeting student needs and delivering dramatically higher student achievement.
