About
About MPS
From the morning bus ride until the last activity of the night, more than 34,000 students grow and learn with Minneapolis Public Schools every day.
Who we are
We are MPS. We turn everyday achievement into student achievement. The Minneapolis Public Schools embraces diversity in our students, in our staff and in the programs we offer to accelerate learning.
Where we are located
While many schools provide quality education, our schools also boast an arts-rich community where students can learn reading, math and science through the arts and visit venues such as the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Orchestra Hall and the Guthrie Theater.
What we offer
We offer students and families a wide range of tools to make their education successful.
Before and after school child care.
Minneapolis Kids provides high quality school-age child care for families. The program offers a safe, nurturing, educational and recreational experience where children develop friendships, independence, and confidence.
Caring teachers.
Our teachers are dedicated, passionate and committed to closing the achievement gap and raising the bar for all students. The Milken Educator Awards and the Oscars of Teaching have recognized eight MPS educators since the program began in 1997, more than any other school district in the state of Minnesota.
Community partnerships.
The generosity of volunteers, local businesses and organizations impacts student achievement. Our community consistently demonstrates that it cares about our students and schools.
Early Childhood Education.
We help children appreciate learning early in their academic careers.
English Language Learners.
Our diverse community is our biggest asset. We welcome new families and stand ready; offering bilingual support staff in our schools and offices.
Healthy meals.
Breakfast is offered at no charge daily to every student and our lunch program is award-winning.
Lifelong learning.
Adult basic education courses are offered year-round.
Parental Involvement Opportunities.
Parents can utilize online tools, participate in school organizations and enroll in groups like CPEO to equip their family with information that will help their students soar. Parent involvement supports success in school.
Paths to graduation.
Career and College Centers are located in every high school and our services are flexible enough to meet a wide range of student needs and schedules.
Rigorous academic programs.
MPS offers the prestigious the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, as well as College in Schools (CIS), Career and Technical Education, advanced World Language programs and Advanced Placement (AP) coursework to support our students educational growth.
School Choice.
Our staff is ready and eager to help families find the right school for their child. We offer popular magnet programs and community schools. Every family has an option to select the school that best meets their needs.
Special Education.
MPS staff members are experts at helping students with unique challenges develop to their fullest potential.
Year-round learning opportunities.
In addition to classes offered September through June, our students may enroll in summer classes to accelerate learning year-round.
