MPS Board of Education
School Board of Education

All meetings are held in the third floor Assembly Room at the Educational Services Center, 807 N.E. Broadway, Minneapolis, unless otherwise noted.

The Board of Education conducts a regular board meeting on the second Tuesday of each month.

The Board will accept public comments on any non-agenda topic from 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. The regular board meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. Proceedings are suspended at 7:00 p.m. so that delegations may speak on any topic on that days agenda, and the meeting will resume no later than 7:30 p.m.

A short business meeting will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6:00 - 6:15 p.m. This short business meeting will be followed by a discussion meeting from 6:15 - 8:00 p.m. Thirty minutes of agenda-related public comments will occur no later than 8:00 p.m.

Work sessions or special discussion meetings may be held on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays of the month on an as-needed basis. These meetings would begin at 6:00 p.m.

School board meetings are broadcast live on Minneapolis Comcast Cable Channel 15. A Board of Education meeting playback schedule is available at Channel 15 . You can also listen to a delayed broadcast of the meetings on KBEM 88.5 FM radio and website at 8:00 p.m. every Tuesday of each month. Audio streaming of meetings is also available.

To better engage the community, each year some board meetings may be held in schools. The boards intent is to provide the opportunity for a two-way dialogue with the community on specific policy issues.

Delegations

At regular, discussion, and special discussion meetings, delegations of parents and community members may address the Board about policy issues on the current meetings agenda.

Please call the school board office at 612.668.0197 before the meeting and leave your name, address, phone number and email address to indicate your desire to speak. If you cannot call, you should complete an information card that is available at the meeting. The information on this card allows district staff to follow up with you about your concerns.

Delegations are limited to three minutes. Groups of five or more people can pool their time so that one representative can make comments for ten minutes.

If you have concerns about administrative issues, you are encouraged to discuss those concerns first with your teacher and principal. If issues cannot be resolved at the school level, you should call your associate superintendents office.

The Minneapolis Board of Education is a policy-making body responsible for selecting the superintendent and overseeing the district's budget, curriculum, personnel and facilities. The school board is granted authority to carry out these duties by the State of Minnesota and the Minnesota Legislature.
