Alternative Schools
The Minneapolis Public School district is committed to providing a variety of opportunities to meet the needs of students. These programs provide a caring environment for students who need services beyond the traditional school day and during the summer to meet state and district standards. Students may be referred to alternative schools through one of the traditional Minneapolis public schools or students may choose to attend one of these schools. 

  • Broadway ALC at Longfellow

    Broadway ALC provides teenage girls who are pregnant or are already parenting with the special attention and resources needed to ensure students will graduate and be able to provide for their child.
     
  • Harrison Educational Center

    Harrison Education Center is a high school alternative Federal Setting IV self-contained program created to serve students between the ages of 14-18 years with severe emotional and behavioral needs.

    MPS Metro SJ is a Residential/Shelter Program and Day Treatment Program that provides collaboration of mental health services provided by St. Joseph's Home for Children – Catholic Charities, with all educational services provided by the Minneapolis Public Schools. The Residential/Shelter Educational Program is located onsite at St. Joseph's Home for Children. The Day Treatment Program is located at the Wilder Complex, with the main entrance at Door 8. Both programs are referral based programs.
     
  • Transition Plus

    Transition Plus is a program designed to provide an adult environment for 18-21 year old young adults with disabilities and identified transition needs.
     
  • Wellstone International High School

    Wellstone is designed to serve students ages 17 to 21 years who have limited to no English language skills and have limited literacy skills in their first language.
     

Contract Alternative Programs
Contract alternative schools are run by community agencies who hire staff and provide the facility. Their mission is to serve those students who've not found success in the traditional school model. Students attending Contract Alternative schools continue to be Minneapolis Public Schools students during their enrollment.
